    WHEREAS on January 16, 2023 the provincial government announced that it is moving forward with plans to “substantially” expand for-profit clinics and hospitals to take the surgeries and diagnostics out of our local public hospitals;

    AND WHEREAS surgeries, MRI’s and CTs are core public hospital services. 

    AND WHEREAS the provincial government has contracted the first three for-profit clinics (day hospitals) in Windsor, Waterloo and Ottawa; 

    AND WHEREAS the provincial government is currently allowing for-profit corporations to run surgeries out of under-used public hospital operating rooms;

    AND WHEREAS the provincial government has introduced enabling legislation in the form of Bill 60, Your Health Act, 2023 which amends and enacts various Acts with respect to the health system; 

    AND WHEREAS Bill 60 has received its third reading in the provincial legislature and is nearing Royal Assent,

    THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Council or the Corporation of the City of Cambridge supports the Ontario Health Coalition’s province-wide, citizen-run referendum being held on Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27, 2023. 

    AND THAT this motion be circulated to the Honourable Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, the Ontario Minister of Health, local area MPPs, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and all Ontario Municipalities.
